Joseph Hohler III

A Kalamazoo native, Joe earned his Bachelor's Degree in Public Law from Western Michigan University and his J.D. from the Michigan State University College of Law.  He also holds a certificate in family law from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and is certified as a domestic relations mediator.  Joe is a court approved mediators for Kalamazoo, Kent, Van Buren and Calhoun counties.

Prior to opening his practice, Joe worked for Legal Services of South Central Michigan.  Since then he has represented clients in a number of different cases -- from family law, to criminal law, to landlord/tenant matters and federal appeals.

Joe is a member in good standing with the Michigan State Bar and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  He has previously been published on the topic of legal education and Mediation.  Also, another article on mediation.  And another.  And another.  And another still!  For a change of pace, here's an article on paternity and social security benefits of a dead father.

Joe has also successfully won appeals in custody cases with the Michigan Court of Appeal.

Joe is currently a volunteer Mediator with Gryphon Place in Kalamazoo, is on the court mediation roster in Kent, Allegan, Calhoun, Van Buren and Kalamazoo Counties.   He also volunteers several times a year for the Kalamazoo County Family Law Assistance Clinic.  He was previously a member of the Kalamazoo Metropolitan County Planning Commission, serving two terms as vice-chair.  He currently serves on State Bar of Michigan Client Protection Fund Committee.  He was previously a member of the Member Services Committee.

Joe is married with two children and lives in the city of Kalamazoo.  

In his free time he is an avid runner, as you can see from the slideshow at left.
